Cuomo Proposes 3 Percent Tax On New Medical Facilities
Many health care firms looking to erect new medical facilities face a fat tax hike under Gov. Andrew Cuomo's $178-billion budget plan. The proposal will slap health care providers with a new 3 percent surcharge - on top of the current .55 percent fee - to win Albany's OK to construct new hospital facilities, nursing homes, diagnostic treatment centers, ambulatory surgery centers and other clinics.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has come under increased pressure to lift his executive order prohibiting pharmacists from dispensing the antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine outside a hospital or inpatient setting to treat the novel coronavirus. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Sunday that he recently witnessed an elderly man with a high fever arrive at Mount Sinai Hospital.
