Associate Editor
Billy Binion is an associate editor at Reason, where he writes about criminal justice and government accountability.
Binion has established himself as one of the foremost reporters on qualified immunity, the legal doctrine that makes it exceedingly difficult to sue government officials accused of misconduct. In the summer of 2020, his work was cited by members of the NFL, NBA, and MLB in a letter to Congress expressing their support for reform. He was recently named a winner of the Novak fellowship, where he will spend a year writing about law enforcement misconduct and the importance of government accountability.
Prior to his career in journalism, Binion worked as a contractor at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization and as a professional performer, appearing with such companies as the Virginia Opera and Virginia Musical Theatre. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia.
